Penne is a type of short pasta that has the shape of a tube and is of Italian origin. Short cylinder-shaped with angled edges, It is sold in most grocery stores including Walmart, tesco, Aldi, and many other specialty food shops.

Penne derives its name from the Italian word 'pen' which refers to the angled ends of the tube and was inspired by the tip of a quill pen.

Penne pairs well with sauces, vegetables, and meat. Its large diameter and ridges make it retain sauces on its body and in the tubes. Some sauces that pair well with penne are pesto, chicken in tomato sauce, marinara, minced meat sauce, arrabbiata, ground beef sauce, fish sauce, and many more.

Vegetables that pair well with penne include carrots, broccoli, green peas, green beans, and sweetcorn.

Also, Penne pairs well with dairy and creams such as milk, heavy cream, and coconut milk to make creamy pasta.

Penne is cooked al dente and is popularly used in various dishes including pasta bakes, salads, and soups.
