What Does Cod Taste Like

Many cod lovers have described its flavor as mild and tender. This is good because it makes it easy for the fish to adapt to the taste of the spices it has been cooked with. So, if you’re cooking cod, you can simply season with salt and pepper, or perhaps you might consider marinating it in fish sauce or your preferred herbs and spices before cooking. Cod would absorb the spices easily, leaving you with a finished product that tastes and smells great. Types of Cod Fish

There are many types of cod fish. However, the two most common types are the Atlantic Cod and the Pacific Cod. The Atlantic Cod, just as its name implies, makes its home in the Atlantic Ocean. Their lifespan is relatively long, and they could live for up to 25 years. However, the Atlantic Cod has suffered from decades of overfishing and its numbers have been severely depleted. It is currently classified as a vulnerable species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), especially in North America.

This leaves us with the Pacific Cod. As it stands, the Pacific Cod is the best type of cod you can get. First, it is not endangered and has a healthy population in Alaska. The Pacific Cod also has a lower calorie content than its Atlantic counterpart. Its mild taste makes it easy to adapt to different recipes. So, whenever you're shopping for cod fish look out for the brownish, spotted skin of the Pacific Cod, or when in doubt, you could ask your favorite fish supplier.
